Origin of the WCP
The WCP emerged as the global level of federation of the neighbourhood- based children's parliament movement that began in southern India. In 2020, supported by a consortium of like-minded organizations, a World Children's Parliament was provisionally established. Legal and financial matters were initially handled by Governance From Below, a USA-based nonprofit organization, and Neighbourhood Community Network (NCN), an Indian organization having special consultative status with the UN ECOSOC. PRATYeK, an Indian child rights organization that promotes children's parliaments joined this coalition recently. PRATYeK also has ECOSOC consultative status.
